Canvas bag with pocket on front. Pocket has flap. Small horseshoe decoration at opening. Bottom has four metal “legs. Opens with push button clasp. Inside - one pocket. Leather handle with metal ends attaching to rings on bag. Marked, “Patent April 2, 1872”.

Description:
Woven brown, tan, reds, black. Bottom leather. Top trimmed with leather and leather straps. Leather handle. Lined with tan and blue striped fabric. Donor info - belonged to Capt. Nathaniel Bracket. Carried on his vessel. Later owned by his son Frederick Bracket the mail carrier of Otisfield, Maine. Used to carry mail. Marked, “FBP Otisfield, Maine”.

Description:
Pig hide, worn at edges. Three large stains on bottom (ink or water). Four metal nobs on bottom of bag. Handle worn - leather sewn over cord which is wrapped with stiff paper. Handle attaches to metal ‘D’ rings and then to metal plate on top of bag. Spring latch with metal ring to pull bag open. Metal edge attached to leather at opening. Two catches close over metal binding. Inside lining torn in several places. One pocket inside. Satchel owned by Mr. Henry Clark owner of Clark and Parker General Store at present site of Oceanarium in Southwest Harbor. [show more]
